From our site within Hogg Middle School we serve scholars in 6th – 12th grade who have a clear and articulated need for free-of-charge, after-school academic, college access, and wellness programming. Students joining the program must meet our socioeconomic criteria, which are primarily based on TEA and federal determinants of economic disadvantage, and pass a rigorous selection process.
Scholar families are a key part of this process, and all successful applicants sign a detailed family contract that defines the parameters and commitments required of families and scholars. This details the long-term nature of the program, lasting to and through college years, minimum attendance requirements, family engagement, and an articulated aspiration that every student will seek to enroll in a four-year college.
We identify and recruit students entering 6th grade during Hogg’s orientation. The first two weeks of school are dedicated to tryouts, family selection, and induction for our new scholars prior to the official start of program.
As scholars graduate to 9th grade, the majority attend Heights High School, which is approximately one mile from Hogg. These scholars become part of our high school program and are brought to program via the Mission Squash Shuttle. These students remain in the program through college graduation and beyond.
